Our spy photographers have already caught the 2013 MINI Cooper, but we're just starting to learn new information about it.
Styled by Anders Warming, the redesigned model will feature a dramatic appearance with a steeply raked windscreen, an upward-sweeping shoulder line and a prominent grille.
The car will ride on a new front-wheel drive platform that will be slightly larger than the outgoing chassis. No word on specifics, but the platform is reportedly flexible enough to underpin a 'proper' five-door hatchback - possibly the next-generation Clubman.
As before, a variety of engines will be available. The entry-level variants are expected to adopt a 1.5-liter three-cylinder that produces 130 PS (96 kW / 128 hp) and 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp) in diesel and petrol guise, respectively. Next up, there will reportedly be a range of 2.0-liter four-cylinders from the BMW 1-Series. Lastly, we can expect a new turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol that produces 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) in the Cooper S and 220 PS (162 kW / 217 hp) in the JCW.
