At a press conference held on Friday 29 July in Frankfurt, the Bavarian concern BMW has officially introduced the first sub-brand cars i, under which the company will produce environmentally friendly cars. The latest i3 i8 and were presented only as a spy pictures taken during the test car. Currently, both cars still carry the title of concepts. To series of new products is far from realization. BMW i3, which originally bore the name of MegaCity, will be the first car to be launched under the brand name i. Its production is planned for the next year. Platform for both machines were developed individually. At the heart of both models is the architecture, which the manufacturer called the LifeDrive, and combining the two uses mentioned in the title. Part of the name means Life high level of comfort for both driver and passenger. Inside, the machine has four individual seats. Luggage allotted 200 liters of storage space. Drive "responsible" for the efficient operation of the suspension, batteries, motors and of the body. Materials used in the design of the cabin, easily recyclable, so that the car in the truest sense of the word can be called environmentally friendly. I3 body is made mostly of aluminum and carbon fiber. It is possible to reduce the weight of the machine (and, thus, reduce energy consumption) and at the same time make it more secure. The electric motor capable of producing up to 170 hp power and 250 Nm of torque, is located above the rear axle vehicles. Up to 60 km / h i3 dispersed in less than 4 seconds. 8 more seconds to spend on a car to accelerate to "hundreds." Maximum printing speed is electronically limited to 150 km / h. Contrast i3 - Concept i8. It's an emotional sport car, which did not immediately suspected the existence of environmental or electric motor. At the heart of i8 - modified on electric i3, which is combined with a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder internal combustion engine 220hp and with 300 Nm of torque. The motor is located above the front axle and the engine - in the back of the machine. This arrangement has reduced the center of gravity and save a little space in the cabin. When operating both motors, i8 shows the dynamics of sporktara and fuel compacts. From a place to "hundreds" i8 sprints in less than 5 seconds. "Appetite" sports car with all restricted to 3 liters per 100 km in mixed mode. Charge the battery can be made using ordinary household power. Mileage per charge is 35 km.
