Today, Volvo has announced plans to present at the Frankfurt Motor Show concept car, equipped with a new compact 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The modular architecture of Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA) provides a direct supply of fuel for petrol versions and the common fuel line diesel variants.
According to senior vice president of Volvo Peter Martens (Peter Martens), given the low consumption and CO2 emissions, the new range of engines ideally suited for hybrid systems. "We have developed a 4-cylinder engines with a capacity higher than that of 6-cylinder counterparts, on the market today" - said Martens.
In the autumn of this year, Volvo plans to test a system recovery of kinetic energy (Kinetic Energy Recovering System), already used by Formula 1 car. The company also is developing a new model series, which will be based on a modular design Scalable Platform Architecture. The new platform will be easier to present to 100-150 kg.
